What really makes a difference between a good and a great company are its employees, and it's crucial to remember that it's not only the boss choosing who to hire but also the people choosing where to work. So how do you get excellent employees to choose precisely your agency?

The power of memories and experiences

When it comes to a professional career, people will always look for room to grow and satisfy their ambition, but ultimately what will make them choose one company over the other is how happy and valued they feel there. To secure the most talented personnel a workplace needs to focus on creating memories, brand positioning, and understanding its workers.

The Antwerp Symphony Orchestra takes this very seriously, as in a competitive and elite world such as the one of classical music, who you hire makes the difference. For example, they provide resting rooms with a piano for traveling conductors, organize dinners and banquets for their investors, and get to know the goals and values of the individuals to valorize them with interviews and focused promotion. All while positioning the brand, the logo, and the orchestra everywhere around, to make sure all of these memories are automatically connected to the company.

Why focus on excellence?

Excellence is high maintenance, and very often employees who become too good for their current position leave for better prospects. However, the connection and the reputation created due to their presence in the organization will persist in time, and the more they grow, even if elsewhere, the more prestigious their "starting company" will become. Going back to our example, for the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, having an excellent conductor doesn't result only in a visible improvement of the quality of the musical output but also in a reputational link, a connection with the citizens and pride of the city for having such a notorious orchestra and conductor.

Elim Chan

The great conductor I've mentioned several times in this blog is Elim Chan, she's a 37-year-old woman from Hong Kong who is internationally regarded as one of the best conductors in the world. I went to see her perform Mahler and Korngold last Friday, and it seemed as if every note of the music would flow through her body before being executed by the orchestra. The audience was mesmerized, and I believe that the people simultaneously realized that not everyone could have created the same magical atmosphere as she did. To conclude, that is proof that investing in excellence pays off every time and leads to incomparable results.

PRO TIP: Focus on her quote: her words imply that the Orchestra's approach of creating memories and experiences worked exactly as the organization intended it to.

NEWS: Elim is going to keep performing until the end of the season, if you want to take the opportunity to assist one of her concerts close to home, now is the time
